After Seven Years of development, the Stance Control Orthotic Knee Joint was released in 2001. GaryHorton, LO, CO, FAAOP, developed this joint along with a team of specialist that he put together. This knee joint is weight activated, allowing a KAFO to block knee flexion, while allowing extension at heel strike, becoming total free motion at heel off. The result is a more normal gait. It is ideal fo rpatients with weak or absent quads due to such things as polio and spinal cord injuries. There is no other joint like this currently available. This joint has a switch and can be used three ways. 1) free knee, 2) locked in 180 degree extension, or 3) stance control mode.  Horton’s Orthotics & Prosthetics, a patient care facility owned by Gary Horton, has had patients wearing KAFO’swith the stance control knee joint since January 2001. As of June 2002, only 6 months after it's commercial release, over 50 pairs of stance control joints have been sold to Practitioners who have attended the SCOKJ training course.  The knee joint is distributed all over the world by Horton’s other company Horton Technology.  For more information on this brace, please visit www.stancecontrol.com or contact our office for an appointment.
