ORTHOTICS

Over 600 types of upper and lower extremity orthoses are currently available. Our experienced practitioners are familiar with a range of custom fit and fabricated devices in such materials as metal, carbon graphite, and thermoformed plastic. Varieties of knee/ankle/foot and ankle/foot orthoses both correct and protect joint and muscle impairments as do upper extremity devices that focus on shoulders, elbows and wrists. An orthosis may consist of a single unit or an entire system of components tailored to a specific condition.

Horton orthotists regularly fit cervical orthoses. They are experienced in selecting the most therapeutic body jacket or other type of spinal orthosis for a particular injury or disability. Postfracture bracing is another aspect of orthotic patient care. We further specialize in pediatric needs such as reciprocating gait orthoses, standing frames, hip abduction and other kinds of splints, parapodiums, and custom wheelchair seating.

Patient education is very important. We demonstrate how to use and care for their appliances, and establish both an introductory and long-term schedule of wear. We also ease apprehension, offer encouragement, suggest support groups or other helpful resources, and involve the patient's family in the overall recovery program.

Have you got a question about Orthotics and need an answer now? Post your question to our O&P Chat Discussion Boards and you're on your way!

We are committed to providing the most thorough and skilled rehabilitation services possible to the people of all ages who come to us for assistance. Since Horton's Orthotic Lab was established in 1981, our primary mission has been to overcome the effects of disability and restore our patients to their highest level of independence and participation in society.
