Horton’s Orthotics & Prosthetics is proud and pleased to introduce the newest member of our team, Allison Hoffmann. Please join us in giving Allison a very warm welcome!
When we first met Allison, she was actually a patient! She has come a long way since then, and we are so glad she discovered her passion for the field of orthotics and prosthetics. Her career choices have always been inspired by her deep concern for others, and we’re happy to shine a much-deserved spotlight on her life and career thus far.
An Inspiring Career Transformation
After Allison graduated from Saint Louis University with magna cum laude honors, she didn’t head straight into the medical field. She actually started her professional career in business after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Her concentration was in marketing, and she began working for NSI Marketing Services in St. Louis upon her graduation.
Allison started as an Account Coordinator, but was quickly promoted to senior positions within the firm. She eventually landed the job of Sales Specialist, after proving her ability to achieve record-setting goals for her clients.
Luckily for us, and her patients, she decided she needed more of a challenge. After learning of a close friend’s tragic limb loss while serving overseas in the U.S. Army secondary to a roadside bomb explosion, Allison began dedicating her free time to amputees in her own effort to give back to our country. It was this experience that inspired Allison to make a 180° career change – giving up her comfy office chair for a dusty workbench in order to pursue her passion for prosthetics. Allison will tell you that aside from saying “yes” to her fiancé’s recent proposal, this was by far the best decision she’s ever made.
“There’s something indescribable about helping those who have been faced with limb loss realize their potential. It’s the look in their eyes, or the smile on their loved one’s face, as they take that first step…It’s a feeling I will never get enough of,” says Allison.
Allison’s commitment to make a difference took her all the way to Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL where she was named valedictorian in both disciplines of study and received two graduate certificates in orthotics and prosthetics. She also became a board-certified and licensed practitioner, earning her certification from the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists.
Strong Devotion to Her Patients
We’re inspired by the career direction that Allison chose to take because she wanted to pursue a passion of bettering people’s lives. So far, she has devoted her medical talents and expertise to a diverse range of patients, including veterans and children.
Allison completed her residency in Memphis, TN where she obtained unique exposure to pediatric prosthetics while serving as a prosthetist for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She also took on many challenging cases in private clinic settings. Working with a wide range of patients, pathologies, and wounded warriors, she found great meaning in treating patients who gave their own health and abilities to fight for our country. Allison focused on providing care using advanced orthotic and prosthetic technologies, always seeking new ways to reduce their discomfort and give them better futures.
A Perfect Addition to the Horton Family
Because of Allison’s determined work ethic and love for her patients, we know she will make an excellent addition to our team. Like the rest of the staff at Horton’s, Allison genuinely understands how important it is for patients and their families to rely on a trustworthy and empathetic medical team throughout their lifetime.
This mindset has compelled her to take on the non-profit organization, A.B.L.E. (Amputees Beyond Life’s Expectations), where as President of the organization she will make every effort to ensure new amputees, and those impacted by their condition, are well-informed and optimistic for the future. The organization’s outreach program involves peer-support, group discussions, coping strategies, recreational activities, and fundraising events to assist individuals in their transition to life after limb loss. She has already proven her ability to work independently, think outside of the box, and treat high volumes of patients with complex needs. We look forward to seeing what else she is “A.B.L.E.” to do.
From her early business success to her new role as our newest clinician, Allison has always prioritized the happiness of others and worked hard to achieve success. She will continue to pursue the most thorough, comprehensive care possible, making sure patients receive the help they need to transform their lives. We can’t wait for you to meet her, so schedule a prosthetics or orthotics consultation with Allison today or call 501-683-8889.
