6 of the Best Websites for Amputees

Life throws a lot of challenges at people who are coping with limb loss. Add to that the challenges of adjusting to prosthetics, and the questions can really add up.

Whether you are searching for advanced prosthetics in Arkansas, a support group for amputees or a myriad of other solutions, the right website can be invaluable. We have compiled a list featuring a half-dozen of the very best resources for amputees.

Amputee Coalition

This national nonprofit, the largest of its kind, raises public awareness about the need to improve the lives of amputees, while also preventing additional limb loss. Through information and outreach, Amputee Coalition tries to improve the lives of millions of amputees.

Heather Mills

Heather Mills, who lost part of her leg to a landmine in 1993, hosts a website, which offers many resources for amputees around the world. Here, you will find everything from a database for medical and prosthetic care, to a forum for fellow amputees, as well as fundraising tools and articles on health and the latest prosthetic technology.

The O & P Edge

Available both online and in print, the O & P Edge is a valuable resource for information about all things orthotic and prosthetic. While geared mainly to professionals working in the field, the informational articles, databases and classifieds sections are useful to the general public.

Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation

As the charitable arm of the Orthotics and Prosthetics National Office, OPAF works to raise public awareness about patients who rely on orthotics and prosthetics. It also organizes clinics on individual skills for people with physical challenges, supports special sports teams and Paralympics events, funds grant programs for related local nonprofits, and provides speakers for public outreach.

The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association

The AOPA branch of Orthotics and Prosthetics National Office helps connect orthotic and prosthetic care facilities, as well as manufacturers of these devices, with the latest information affecting the industry. It is also active in working with government agencies to make a positive difference in patients’ lives. In addition, you will find information about upcoming legislation affecting amputees, as well as a comprehensive list of additional patient resources.

The Horton’s Blog

Because we know how much our patients rely on us for more than just bionic prosthetics in Arkansas and technical information, we make sure to keep up with all of the latest research and helpful tips. Look for blog posts with information about how various prosthetics and orthotics work, as well as the newest technological breakthroughs, ways to help your children care for their devices, and more.
